Liberty’s College learners visit Ramsgate Fire Station

Learners from Liberty College in Margate enjoyed an informative and inspiring visit to Ramsgate Fire Station, where they were given a behind-the-scenes tour by the station’s recruitment officer.

During the visit, youngsters explored the station’s facilities, including the firefighters’ living areas, training areas, and on-site gym, which plays an important role in maintaining the fitness levels required for the job. They also had the opportunity to learn about the specialist uniforms and equipment used by firefighters to respond to a wide range of emergencies.

A highlight of the day was the chance to get up close to the fire engines and discover the extensive range of equipment carried on board. Firefighters explained how each piece of equipment is used and provided valuable insight into the skills, teamwork, and dedication required within the profession.

The visit became even more memorable for the first group of learners, who witnessed a real emergency call-out in action. As the alarm sounded, they watched firefighters respond immediately, rushing to the appliance bay—one firefighter even using the station’s fire pole—before boarding the fire engine and leaving the station within two minutes.

The experience provided learners with a fascinating and realistic insight into the fast-paced nature of the Fire and Rescue Service and highlighted the professionalism, commitment, and teamwork demonstrated by firefighters every day.
