Learners from the Travel & Tourism group at Liberty College Margate recently took part in an educational visit to two key attractions, combining outdoor learning, history, and tourism studies.
The group visited Kearnsey Abbey, where learners explored the park’s lakes, bridges, and woodland areas. The visit focused on nature-based learning and environmental awareness, with discussions around local wildlife and sustainable visitor behaviour.
Learners also had the opportunity to feed the swans and ducks, while evaluating the site’s facilities and considering its suitability and appeal for different visitor types as a tourist destination.
The day also included a visit to the Western Heights of Dover, a vast network of historic fortifications built to defend Britain against invasion, particularly during the Napoleonic era.
Learners examined the site’s historical significance and its value as a heritage tourism attraction, while enjoying panoramic views across Dover town and harbour. This visit supported learners in understanding how history, landscape, and visitor experience combine to create a compelling tourist attraction.
Liberty College is an independent specialist college providing training to prepare young people with high needs for the world of employment. Meaningful, inclusive experiences support learners’ personal development alongside their academic and vocational studies.
